About Me

Having studied Risk Management I worked for a number of years as a Business Analyst and Change Management Consultant. My focus was on helping people in the work force get used to new systems and ways of working. This involved understanding their current ways of working and helping them to adapt to the new processes.

I then “took time off” to have my first child. In the four years since this I have moved countries twice, completed a degree in psychology and counselling and become a parent for a second time.  I have also recently qualifed as a Post Natal Carer (Maternity Nurse).

The classes I offer are developed using the skills I acquired as a professional and the knowledge gained from being a mother and studies in human development. The focus is on the emotional and practical side of mothering.

The inspriation for the courses came from  chatting to first-time mums-to-be while attending antenatal yoga classes in preparation for the birth of my second child. I became aware again of just how much there was to learn and adjust to in the first few weeks of motherhood that did not concern the baby and which generally was not discussed or written about. I starting talking to friends and mums at toddler groups and discovered that many of us had the same types of experiences and had things that they wished they had been told before the baby was born. Many of the women felt they had been deceived by a society that places a huge emphasis on pregnancy and birth but did not provide much support for the mother after the birth.

I know it is hard to imagine what life will be like with a baby and that pregnancy can be an overwhelming experience, but not thinking about life beyond pregnancy is like not thinking about marriage after the wedding ceremony. With a little knowledge and thought the process of becoming a mother can be exciting and enjoyable rather than frustrating and isolating.
